Lamentations 5 : 1 (NCV)

Remember, Lord, what happened to us. Look and see our disgrace.

Lamentations 5 : 2 (NCV)

Our land has been turned over to strangers; our houses have been given to foreigners.

Lamentations 5 : 3 (NCV)

We are like orphans with no father; our mothers are like widows.

Lamentations 5 : 4 (NCV)

We have to buy the water we drink; we must pay for the firewood.

Lamentations 5 : 5 (NCV)

Those who chase after us want to catch us by the neck. We are tired and find no rest.

Lamentations 5 : 6 (NCV)

We made an agreement with Egypt and with Assyria to get enough food.

Lamentations 5 : 7 (NCV)

Our ancestors sinned against you, but they are gone; now we suffer because of their sins.

Lamentations 5 : 8 (NCV)

Slaves have become our rulers, and no one can save us from them.

Lamentations 5 : 9 (NCV)

We risk our lives to get our food; we face death in the desert.

Lamentations 5 : 10 (NCV)

Our skin is hot like an oven; we burn with starvation.

Lamentations 5 : 11 (NCV)

The enemy abused the women of Jerusalem and the girls in the cities of Judah.

Lamentations 5 : 12 (NCV)

Princes were hung by the hands; they did not respect our older leaders.

Lamentations 5 : 13 (NCV)

The young men ground grain at the mill, and boys stumbled under loads of wood.

Lamentations 5 : 14 (NCV)

The older leaders no longer sit at the city gates; the young men no longer sing.

Lamentations 5 : 15 (NCV)

We have no more joy in our hearts; our dancing has turned to sadness.

Lamentations 5 : 16 (NCV)

The crown has fallen from our head. How terrible it is because we sinned.

Lamentations 5 : 17 (NCV)

Because of this we are afraid, and now our eyes are dim.

Lamentations 5 : 18 (NCV)

Mount Zion is empty, and wild dogs wander around it.

Lamentations 5 : 19 (NCV)

But you rule forever, Lord. You will be King from now on.

Lamentations 5 : 20 (NCV)

Why have you forgotten us for so long? Have you left us forever?

Lamentations 5 : 21 (NCV)

Bring us back to you, Lord, and we will return. Make our days as they were before,

Lamentations 5 : 22 (NCV)

or have you completely rejected us? Are you so angry with us?
